Commitment & Partnership Ceremonies

Currently, Same Sex Marriages cannot be solemnised in Australia or its Territories, as Marriage is defined here as being able to be conducted between a man and a woman.

Same sex marriages, conducted overseas are also not recognised here.

A Commitment Ceremony is an alternative enabling “same sex” couples the ability to publicly declare their commitment to the other in a ceremony with family and friends in attendance.

Some States and Territories in Australia, keep a register of such committed relationships.
